Monday, May 27 – EXCELSIOR MEMORIAL DAY PARADE and OAK HILL CEMETARY SERVICE –
Remember those who have given their lives in service of our country by lining Water Street to watch the parade that starts at 11:00. It begins at Excelsior Elementary, goes down Water Street, and continues to the cemetery. Walk behind the firetrucks to the cemetery, and gather on the hill for the short, moving graveside service (MHS choir, Girl and Boy Scouts, American Legion, bugle taps) that follows at 11:30. This year, weather permitting, the morning will include a flyover by two military propeller driven aircraft. Let’s not forget the real reason why we celebrate Memorial Day. God bless America!
MISSION OF THE MONTH for MAY– Jeremy Goodell Scholarship Fund – Jeremy was a such special young man to our Minnewashta Church congregation. Jeremy’s enthusiastic and genuine love of the Lord was evident in all he did, but especially in his relationships with our youth. He served as our Youth Pastor for just a short time before he was in a tragic automobile accident and was killed on his way to Vacation Bible School on the evening of August 13, 2001.
Jeremy truly loved his job and had hope of, one day, becoming the Senior Pastor at Minnewashta. He was such a bright light in the lives of so many – we won’t ever forget him. The scholarship program is meant to serve as a special, and enduring way to honor his memory. SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE PRESENTED ON JUNE 9, during church service.
BENEVOLENCE FUND – The benevolence fund is used to aid families with unexpected or high medical expenses, victims of natural disasters. The unemployed, the under employed and in other similar circumstances.
