Memory Verse – James 4:10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up”
Midweek Message 4.9.25 – Sermon Notes – “An Attitude of Humility”
Proverbs 27:2 Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.
Philippians 2:5-9 have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.
Luke 14:1,7-11 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee . . .When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Point 1: Humility Begins with Seeing God Clearly
Isaiah 6:1-5 – “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips… and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
Point 2: Humility Grows When We Put Others First
Philippians 2:3-5 – Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Point 3: Humility is Exalted by God
James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
1 Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, as we continue this Lenten journey, we come before You with humble hearts. Help us to return to You with sincerity, to seek You more deeply, and to live lives that reflect Your grace. May this season of Lent draw us closer to You and prepare us for the joy of Easter. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
